Yep, it's official. I'm the only one too lazy to change his own oil.

        Re: Oil Change Poll

I definately do in my Nova .....takes about 10 minutes
My wife's car is another story.
If they'd put the damn oil plug and filter where I can
get to 'em....I'd do it in a minute
She only puts about 3000 miles a year on hers so a dealership change ain't a bad way to go

          Re: Oil Change Poll

I changed it all myself up until about a year ago. Now I only do it on the hot rod. It got to be too much of a hassle to dispose of the old oil. We got a deal on the new Chrysler 300c at the dealer where if we get it serviced there we get free tires for life. At 300 a pop for the tires it sounds like a deal to me, and their oil changes arent that much more. She talked me into going to a locally owned oil change one day about a year ago when we were in town and I was going to stop and get oil and filter for the truck. One trip and I got spoiled, they bring you a drink (non alcoholic of course) while you wait and wash all the windows. Im an quick oil change whore now.

            Re: Oil Change Poll

I do my own. Having a hoist makes it easy, and I have a couple of 5 gallon cans for waste "all" (oil in North Carolinian). I drag it down to the Auto Zone and dump away. I use AC filters on the Buick and Camaro, Motorcraft on the F150 and Mustang, and MOPAR on the Dakota. Maybe a bit anal, but I know they're OK, and I've never had a problem. If I'm too busy and it's time (every 3K), we have a small locally owned general repair facility that I trust. Kelly's a just a bit pricier than the quick lube joints, but I know she (yep, SHE - ASE certified in EVERYTHING) does it right.

                      Re: Oil Change Poll

I always change my own oil and get a good deal on the Castrol 15w40 that we run in all of our Cat quarry equipment,Peterbilt truck fleet at work. It's nice and calm at 3 in the morning after my shift is over and I can take my time and look the whole vehicle over good while it's over the pit that's well lit and equipped with everything.
It gripes me to hand anyone the keys when I know they will charge me for stuff that I can do myself . I change oil at 3000 miles regardless of what these oil reps say about extended oil changes and better oil technology . If any oil is that "great" ,it must be even better to change it at 3k instead of 5k like they say . I have been running the same 15w40 Castrol hd truck fleet oil in everything I own for nearly 15 years now and have never lost a flat tappet cam yet . If it works in a turbocharged 60 ton Cat haul truck then it sure is good enough for a little chevy engine . I pulled a valve cover off of the daily driver lately and it was as clean as if it had just been rebuilt today .
Some people definitely have more demands on their time and I can see how that must be but "my time" = free labor , a good look at the brakes , tires , everything that a person would like to know before turning the key and driving to the far end of the state.
Some underpaid goth kid with a ring in every imaginable place of his body that strips out the oil drain plug and don't fill the oil the whole way would make me uneasy. sorry!
We have a waste oil burning forced hot air heating system in the shop and a 3000 gallon tank that it feeds out of . 100 gallons of hydraulic oil is no big deal to pump in there and we keep the shop a comfy 70 deg even when its 10 degrees and snowy and icy outside . I'm turning into a wimp!
