I'll bash it the same as I'll bash NASCAR: No homologation rules. It's not like the old Group B rally cars, where you could go and buy one. Now the closest you can get is to buy an Evo/STi and tune the holy hell out of it.
That being said though, at least that one started as a real body by Ford, not a kit car with stickers.Editor-at-Large at...well, here, of course!

we kids did this stuff in reardrive sunbirds with the four pulled and v8 installed and the e brake handle. way back in the 80's
