Alot are like me, who doesn't give a crap about the retarded unit he was in... in modern corruption lies and drooling beaurocracy with DoD dollar signs in their eyes. That is not serving the country BTW. :

this guy had quite a life of giving and receiving:
c/n: shot down in p38, he was photographer, and pilot or just pilot(?), survived 31 days, rescued by natives who did not like japan either apparently, saved his life. Saved by commandos, undercover mission to a submarine, goes home, remembers how lucky that is, goes back and start eduacting the natives.
near the end of his life they called him "chief warrior" by their own language. Now that is a soldier. ;)
