  • GM style HEI distibutors

I have an oportunity to buy a slightly used GM style HEI Ford distributo for a really good price. It's a Speedway Motors house brand. It looks in pretty good shape other then needing a new vacuum advance. I'm thinking it's a repackaged MSD Streetfire version. Any comments? It would be replacing my stock style with a Petronix.

it take anymore room than a big ford electronic dist. HEI's work good for me!

Make sure to have a quality module in it. And, keep a spare in the car. They dont give you any warning when they quit.

That's why it's being sold. The guy was adding AC to his Maverick and the AC lines wouldn't fit with the HEI.

If you have them go out alot than something isn't grounded in the distrib correctly.I think when I burnt thru like 8 in one year the coil wasn't.

I have a Performance Distributors unit in the Buzz Bomb - works great. Never had one in a Ford but I suspect it should work fine. PD (maybe others?) has a module with a built in, adjustable rev limiter. Seems like it would be worth the price if it isn't TOO expensive.

                      Re: GM style HEI distibutors

Well, I won the auction on ebay for it. $40 plus $15 for shipping. Grand total of $55. Since I won another auction from the same guy for a Edelbrock calibration kit for my carb, I'm wondering if he'll cut me a little break on the shipping charges by combining both. Even if he doesn't still a fair price IMO. After all I did agree to the terms. Here's the dist I won, http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Small-...utor,1692.html I need to get a new vacuum advance and I'm going to get the Speedway house brand of wires for it at $39. The can is something like $21 and it has adjustable diaphragm. I think I'll be pretty set on my ignition.

On my Mustang, the only switched 12V source is the resistor wire for the coil. I have already spliced a wire just before the resistor wire for the electric choke. I'm going to install a couple of relays. 1 for the choke and one for the new distributor since I'm sure with the old, small gauge wire there's going to be a significant voltage drop with just the regular wire and old wiring supplying power to the ignition switch. The new distributor will now get a very good power supply and assure it works as it should.

I would go with spiral core moroso blue max wires , a delco module and coil

I had one in the Ranger and am using the same one in the Mustang. It worked great and I have been very happy with it.
