  • Looking for a favor from someone in Texas

So, my Dad's old Ford pickup is getting kind of rusty, and one of the things Dad has wanted to do is to swap out the box with a solid one from a southern truck. Mom and Dad are planning on taking a vacation down to see my sister in McAllen(sp?) in February, and Dad was considering try to find a bed down there that he could put on. Of course, he would have no way to get it home unless he replaced it down there.

So, the favor portion- first does anyone know anyone know of a solid 8 foot dual fuel tank bed for a '94 ford, and second, is there anyone who has a shop that might be willing to take the job for a modest sum? Nothing to fancy, just swapping one bed for another.

This place always has a bunch of beds.

We should be able to find one here, too if the Texas deal doesn't work out. Your Dad can swap it here if he wants. Seems like we could work this around a Maxton meet.

Have him take it to a Body Shop, there labor rate will be cheaper than a repair shop and they will have more experience in removing and replacing the bed.........

Six big bolts holding the bed down, six little bolts holding the fuel fill inlets in, one wiring harness that can either be unplugged from the tail lights or from the frame. Pretty straight forward, but the Michigan truck is going to have rusted bolts, its faster to just cut them off. Two big guys can lift a box off relatively easily.

I'm with Todd, those truck beds come off relatively easy, especially if you just plan on new bolts in the first place and just cut the old ones off. A half hour with a angle grinder will do it, if you don't have a torch handy.

Friend of mine works for McGuires here locally, he is all over the country hauling in new and good truck beds on a regular basis. They may have what you need, not everything gets listed on the website, in fact they rarely update that site. Give them a call, its a lot closer than Texas.....ask for Denny, tell him Virgil's buddy Stiney referred you.

Also, TSC will have all the new bolts needed to bolt the new bed down. The only reason the factory used carriage bolts was for production purposes, only takes one guy to tighten them down instead of one in the bed and one underneath......
