  • Anouther House...

My wife and I have been talking about moving, and have been slowing getting the house ready to sell. Well we found a forclosure that is just what we have been looking for and it is priced less than you could build it and is practally move in ready. So we might end up with two house payments. As long as we both keep our jobs the numbers work out, with cutting way back on saving, entertainment, and buying STUFF. If everything works out well I could come out with enough cash to be a big hunk the cost of building a shop. I guess the worst case I could lose it all, hoping for the best.

Here are a couple of the things I am not going to buy (The good deals come up when the money is not advalable)

    Ford 302 High Performance Engine - $1500

The other deal I was going to post is already been sold it was so good...

Good luck with the house stuff! It's definitely a buyers market!

A buyers' market indeed. I think I've posted this here before...There's a website, Zillow.com. Unit's cousins came here to visit from Florida and the guy turned me onto it. Urban legend has it, that appraisers go to Zillow and see what it says, and that's what they'll appraise the house for if it's not all torn up. Work done ahead of time for the appraisers.

We've got our house, we're in it, and have watched its value sink since like a shot duck since the day we bought it. Doesn't matter to us, this is our house and not interested in moving anywhere else anyhow. But that site gives you an idea what you're getting into, and how fair the asking price is. They don't cover every street in the nation, but if your house's value is listed there....there it is.

I have played with the Zillow app when looking for houses. Just went to the web site I think the Zestimate is about right for my house. I will sell it for the Zestimate today! Anybody want a house in Raleigh? Great location, small lot easy to take car of (no room for shop)

          Re: Anouther House...

Best of luck, Russell. A few houses are now selling in Wilmington now and I hope Raleigh is in the same boat. We got lucky with ours and bought it just before the prices soared so we're OK. Anyone who's "upside down" - remember, this has happened before and, unless you bought at the top of the market, all you have to do is wait. In time it WILL come back up in value. Cycles........

Amen on best of luck to Russell. But it sure is a buyers' market. With so many folks being unemployed for so long...buying a house is a life event. Again, we're in our huse, we've got it and this is it. We know it. But to be in a situation right now do be actually shopping for a house, that would be exciting. It's almost like being able to take advantage of others' misfortune. And more luck is needed for anybody wanting to SELL one.

We live in a relatively small subdivision, and there's a bunch houses for sale. The street looks like there's a poitical campaign going on for all the for-sale signs in yards. And the statistics say that for all the houses that are for sale, the majority of them are not the sellers' choice, as in they can't make the payments, etc.

And the odd thing is there is also a lot for sale out by the main road. A lot. How much of a stretch is that? You typically buy a lot to build a house. And there are beaucoup already built houses for sale in the neighborhood for cheap, so....good luck to the lot seller. The sign's been up on the lot for about 2 years.

Maybe the strangest thing I've seen in recent times was a new house being built up the road from here. It's sad, the state of the economy. The talkers are saying it's on the rebound, and I sure hope it is. But it'll be a slow go.
