  • If you could only have ONE hobby car

The thread on "favorite bodystyles" got me to thinking...if you could only have ONE hobby car now and for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chad asked me that a few months ago and my answer was a flatfender jeep. Why? Because they are universal and I could do virtually anything with one, from drags to four-wheeling to retro-rod shows. Besides, they are iconic and they just make me happy.

    How about you?

My Skylark, first car, can't affect the value and I enjoy it.

        I think I'll stick with my '62 NY-wagon.
Versatile, handy, cool, multi-purpose and I can even sleep in it... What else can you ask for?

CJ-7...... big enough to fit comfortably in (the CJ-5 has a shorter wheelbase and im 6'5''). I can off road in it, and just about any engine i want will fit in it (fenders optional). Living in michigan i could drive it ANYWHERE even in the winter (its still winter here... i dont know what the deal is.... i hate snow!)

1955 Chevy....for the same reasons you mentioned about the flatfender (aside from the 4-wheeling)

78-83 Malibu Wagon. Looks cool, lots of room, easy to work on, multiple engines will fit, and it came in a 4 speed.

Most likely my Healey 100 with a Small block... it would do most of it well... cept the 4 wheeling... but We could stay and motels and say we went four wheeling... Or not... LOL

Keith ( really good question )

My '57 150 2dr wagon. It's being built as a gasser, but I could take it LSR (not the most efficient, but I could do it), tame it down into a grocery getter/cruiser, and pretty much do everything you said except 4 wheeling. I could even change it up into a decent looking mild custom, or Pro Tour it. (If I lost my soul)

For me it would have to be the Superbird. It was my childhood dream car (I was 11 when it was introduced) and I still think its awesome. Nothing else before or since has set my heart to racing (no pun intended) like the Superbird. Not Ferraris, not Porches, not Corvettes, nothing, so for me it has to be the Superbird. Its at the pinnacle of American muscle cars, it has a bona fide racing heritage, and it is a true piece of American automotive history, so for me, the 'Bird's the word! ;)

Doesnt anyone here like off-roading? The mud and rock stuff is what got me into the whole car hobby to begin with. I go out with my friends or with my dad whenever i can.

Wow, one car... I think I would go crazy!!! In the Jeep world it would have to be a TJ. Perfect mix of the real spirit of a Jeep along with fuel injection, coil spring suspension, and all the other modern touches.

Now for the Muscle car world, I had it and let it get away. Buick GS Stage 1. But this time with a 4 speed. All real muscle cars should have a 4 speed. 8)
