Holy crap just had a computer power supply go off like a fire cracker.

We were sitting here at work and one of my guy's computer's just popped twice like Blackcats and went dead. Apparently the power supply fan died and let the unit get too hot. Smoked the fuse and a PCB trace, big time.

First time I've ever had one go off like that.

We had a desktop PC do that here about a month ago :o Just out of the blue, *POP* and a good puff of smoke.

the surge protector in my house started smoking one day and melting the plastic casing, i unplugged it before it caught on fire and bought a new one

HP 530's are notorious for blown PSU's. I've serviced a few that have done that. See video...

The crappy brown adhesive they used becomes conductive over time & blows up the main switching FET & a few other parts in the PSU.

Had some lights and light duty stuff plugged into an old powerstrip in a machine shop at the Berks campus. I was cleaning aluminum chips up after some machining on the mill. A chip fell into the powerstrip. Started a nice light show until I got it unplugged.

I have never had a good one.. until voiding a warranty one day, (removed the cover,) grabbed some of my two part auto urethane and literally poured it on the backside of the pcb covering the dangling points that so graciouslly slam though them.

no problems since..

one can also find circuits ready to spark each other off on the other side..

the psu I refer to even set a pace for 80% and higher efficienvy ratings... freaking criminals.
