Road trip LA - Kansas City, what to see?

Planning on driving out from LA to see my wife's family in Kansas in either April or May.

Probably head out through either Nevada and Utah into Colorado or Arizona and New Mexico up into Colorado and then come back along the 40.

Any suggestions for cool stuff or events to see along the way?

If you go the Ariz, New Mexico I can give you some ideas.Theres not much to see between Denver and KS.LOL. Where in Kansas are you going?

Tucumcari, NM is worth the drive through town
just to see the old motels on Route 66

If you have the time I would take the northerly route one way and the southerly route the other.

Lots of beautiful scenery up in the hills, museum of nature and science is pretty good as well as the zoo (and they are within walking distance of each other.

For BangShifty goodness, the season opener Night of Fire and Thunder is in early May at Bandimere, the 1st Saturday od every month is The Golden Supercruise in Golden. Wins Over The Rockies (aviation museum) is open every day of the week.....

Just depends on how much time you have and what you want to do.

Thanks for the ideas. We'll definitely be taking a differnt route there than back to try and see as much as possible but unfortunately won't have a whole lot of spare time to go too far out of our way.

The May cruise is usually around 1500 cars, they basically let us over run the town of Golden, businesses don't mind you parking in their lots and just ask that you patronize them in return. People start showing up around 2-3 pm and it goes until 10 or so .... At 7, Mike (kinda the organizer) leads everyone on the cruise to Downtown Golden....lots of spectators come out and line the streets to see the cars and take pics.

It's one of the better deals around here, a lot of fun.
