As for the front end, don't ignore the 03 up Marauder and Crown Vic suspension. The entire front suspension is mounted on an aluminum cross member that bolts in. You can unbolt it out of the Vic, weld on a few pads to your frame, and there you go- rack and pinion and disk brakes. And since alot of these cars were cop cars, you can get big brakes. And it is light! Check out this thread to see a guy do it with a 67-72 Ford pickup:
1967 - 1972 F-100 & Larger F-Series Trucks - Buildup!! 06 crown vic front suspension into 67 F100 - I am swapping a 2006 crown vic front suspension into my 67 ford F100. I know this is a good alternative for a more modern front suspension and a good way to get alot of suspension drop, plus it is a steal at $350-$500...
I have also seen this done on a mid 80's Chevy truck- I think that the guy is a member here and goes by "Haulin it". Very cool. Plus I think it includes the motor mounts for the engine. If you buy an old cop car (relatively inexpensive), you can pull the entire drivetrain and swap it.
measure the width of the front suspension (preferably while it's on the donor car and has wheels/tires on it), make sure it'll fit. The early trucks are not as wide as newer trucks, and it might not fit very well.
King pins work great for me....really....nothing wrong with them. They still use them on bigger trucks. It's a clever design.
Sweet! I had a 53 F-100, Meadow green, with Raven black running boards and bumpers. I put a Industrial Chassis crossmember in it, with Dodge Dakota suspension. I never got to drive it though, I miss that truck, and wish I could have finished it.
An inspirational pic. These things look awsome slammed.
I want to run a narrower front suspension on the front to have more of a negative offset on the wheels and still tuck them into the fenders, its gunna be super low like this
