  • Engine carnage pictures

here is a preview of the engine carnage in the 355 in my monte. we'll get to see the bottom end when i pull the motor in the spring ;D

there is also a 2" x 2" hole in the oil pan that i couldnt get a picture of :D

drivers side cylinders, notice how the middle 2 pistons are almost level and one of them is rotated counter-clockwise

close-up of the piston, it has a few dents from a valve in it

passenger side cylinders, this piston is at a 45 degree angle and is wedged into the cylinder wall :D

the car is pretty much embedded in a frozen snowbank, and it would take days to dig it out completely to unbolt the header collector to be able to get the header out of the way to unbolt the head bolts.

they were only $100 dynomax headers with warped flanges that leaked, and i also wont be able to use them with the 5.3 thats going in the car, so it was easier to just hack 'em off to get the heads off that i sold

Ah yep, I see your problem right there. When you install the pistons you need to make sure they're straight. If they're sideways like that, they're going to give you problems down the road. :D

At this point, I'd just yank the whole beast, I doubt the block made it. Can't wait to see the guts!

              :D

i had expected the whole bottom end to be a total loss as soon as it happened, and since there wasnt really much money into it and it was just a 2-bolt block with cast internals it wasnt really a big deal.

i almost want to wheel the engine lift over to the other side of the house though where the car sits and pull the motor just to see the bottom end carnage :D

It's amazing that it ran, what with all those bolts and pushrods in the valley. Geez.

                    ;)

ran over 7000rpm for an extended period of time, it developed a VERY loud knock, but was my only car, so i had to drive it to school, drove it to school for a week with the knock and it finally died and seized up in my driveway after i got home from school on friday, she was a trooper ;D
