If this thread goes too political, by all means kill it. I think it's just interesting to see where we get our oil from and our consumption rates.

I think this is good stuff......considering the current
climate in the Middle East
I was just reading about the ANWR reserves......seems
this area has same capacity as Saudi ArabiaThom

Re: Where does the US get it's oil from.
A little off topic-
But something that bothers me everyday I drive by it is this 3 year old bio fuel plant they built down the road. I think the had it running for a month maybe two and shut it down because they couldn't afford to produce any product and keep the lights on.
Also ethanol. I live in Iowa, we are kinda known for having a lot of corn here ;D but what I don't get is ethanol and bread prices will sky rocket and corn prices aren't making headlines like gas prices.
I never could figure out why our gas with 10% ethanol beings we are the corn state wasn't cheaper than it is.Jeff

It costs more to refine fuel from corn than crude.
Yeah, I think even Al Gore has changed his tune on corn-based ethanol.
Sugarcane works better, and there are some new plants that work better than cane.

Did you know our number 1 supplier of crude is Canada? They want to build a pipe line from Canada to US as well. This would free us from importing oil from the middle east so they say. My properties in PA are sitting on the largest deposit of natural gas in the US. They're drilling like mad. If any one has a CDL A, tons of work for you guys here.TomOverdrive is overrated

Thanks for posting that Randal - I think that will surprise many folks as it did me.
It seems we could get more oil from Russia - through Alaska, and let the middle East sell oil to someone else?
hm
Interesting indeed. There's always something new to learn.

Two things on ethanol......I tried it twice when it was much cheaper....gas mileage
sucked.....so the savings really wasn't a savings
I drive through the heart of ethanol plants in Missouri and Illinois.....from what
I am told by the locals.......it takes 8-10 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of ethanol then
it has to be trucked (by truck burning $4 a gallon diesel).....much concern about sucking
local water tables dryThom
