  • Tough times, Tough Decisions

Good morning! As the economy continues to negatively affect our lives, so too it affects motorsports and its events. Now, add the spiraling cost of travel to that equation and tough choices face every enthusiast and/or participant. And ? if you happen to be a track owner/operator ? those choices are made more difficult by the seemingly awesome cost and increased risk of producing an event that generates a profit.

Therefore, I am ? for the first time in 50 years ? resigning from all this year?s events, save two.

    1. May 21, Saturday - 2nd Annual Detroit Dragway Reunion, Milan Dragway, Milan, MI
    2. October 21-23 ? 20th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion, Famoso Raceway,
    Bakersfield, CA

My appraisal business, Southwest Valuations, is growing and blesses me with the coolest car guy job ? ever. And that?s what I?m gonna do. My enthusiasm for hot rodding, drag racing and all motorsports has not lessened a bit. I remain a sold-out, rock ?n roll car guy and will continue adding to the discourse here. But tough times require tough choices and this is mine. Thanks for understanding.

Man,I hear ya. I will be cutting way back on the travel also. $60 bucks to fill the car is going to keep Me close to home, with travel only for a few select races.

This year won't be too bad for me as Maxton remains in Maxton. But next year may be a big deal depending on where we end up running. I'm only 100 miles from the current track but some of the venues on the table are quite a haul.

Sorry the economy has bit you, Jon - best of luck.

        Sorry to hear that.

I'm going to be doing the same sadly, I love going to cars shows but when I heard the two nice shows I went to{Super Chevy in Maple Grove and Macgunie}last year were a bust by people I knew that went down, that sucked to hear.

I'm however def. going to Leadeast in NJ this year.

This Economy is tough on most everybody, even the Wealthy aren't buying toys (that's the business I'm in) so I have to work longer and harder, if you're employed and have a steady income you should be in reasonably good shape compared to a bunch of other people. As for me I kind of let last year pass me by and therefore my Bucket list is growing longer and my time (like everybody else's) on this planet is getting shorter so I'm going to try to get out more often and play more this year regardless of the Economy, Granolas and those Bastard Wall Street speculators!

Ya gotta love it. As the economy weakens, both fuel and car event costs rise. On the news they say the President is thinking about releasing some reserve oil. What's to think about you dumb sonofabitch? Three yrs ago it was $5 a gallon gas that lit the fuse on the failing economy around these parts. I knew one family lost their home because the commute cost the 2 of them $1800 a month. They couldn't quit their jobs, so they quit their home.

I'm thinking releasing some of the Oil reserves would be just a short term Band Aid and that won't stop Wall Street Speculators anyway. I believe we have the resources, we just can't get to them because the Granolas have too many Lobbyists on their payroll.

I don't have my travel plans worked out yet for the year, but they probably won't change too much based on fuel costs. Maybe.

If you want to figure out who to blame for what's going on, follow the money. The granolas don't make money off it, do they? I'm guessing the offending lobbyists work for someone else.

20 bucks or more in the tank is not going to keep me home. Maybe there is a point when it will but not now...I don't like it but I can handle it. The reason I get up and trudge to work everyday is so I can have my house, garage, race car and my fun. It could all go away tomorrow if I got sick or something so my while my bills are paid and I got bread in the bank I'm going racing. And if your able, do yourself a favor and go have some fun too.

Believe me, I am really thankful that I have a job right now but I'll be damned if this economic situation is going to make me sit home....besides what am I gonna do watch ####ing TV?

It's definitely keeping me closer to home, but I have to factor in plane tickets now to go see Bryan. Do I blow an extra couple hundred dollars going places I don't have to go or do I save it to go see my boyfriend? I don't care how much fun it might be to go somewhere, he comes first.
