Blu's thread about helping out George Hurst reminded me about 2 encounters I've had.
The first was in 1981 when I was working as a commercial electrician,my boss picked me up because he had a long day planned for us (me). We headed over to North Ridge Ca. and pulled behind a shop with just DLi on the door. I wasn't a Mopar guy, still not,but was ,am, a ProStock fan seems Dick needed a mill and a few new panels installed. I ran some of those conduits above the engine racks...standing on Hemi's (real ones) what a day. A few weeks later we went back and picked up my boss' rebuilt 440 for his auction bought ex forest ranger work truck because every old electrical contractor needs a work truck that can pull the Simi Pass (118 FWY) at 100mph!
The other was in 1992 at Don Garletts' museum in Ocala the day the former Granatelli 1962 Dodge(I think) was un loaded. (Its red with twin Paxton's if you go to the museum). Don spent about an Hour out there on the lawn showing me all the cool old speed and safety stuff on that car. Pointing out the bevel lens gauges, the metal plates bolted to the floor (scatter shield) roll cage/bar install. Mounting of the rear end ,Both of us LAYING ON THE GRASS! Top to Bottom Front to Back I got the complete tour of that car! It was just plain awesome. Don IS one of us,gets wound up for cool stuff just like us. The best part of this story is my buddy got it all on VHS TAPE! (I don't have it,but I know it's in one of about 30 boxes of tapes he has,one day I'll dig it out) My buddy had thought Garletts was the bigest A-Hole before that day,now even he fondly remembers that day.
