  • Big Surprise!

Last Saturday evening the ECTA held their annual banquet. As usual, Mary Ellen was kind enough to drive the 100 miles each way so she could attend and I could demonstrate that I really DO have a sweetie. Anyhow, I got a HUGE surprise - I was presented the John Beckett award as "The Member of the Year" for "Outstanding Support of the ECTA". I was fully blown away - I had NO CLUE that this might be coming my way. And this is The Big One - the highest honor an ECTA member can recieve. BTW - John Beckett was one of two founders of the ECTA and was killed at Bonneville some years back when his car rolled at speeds exceeding 250 MPH. His memory is very dear to the ECTA and I regret that I never got to meet the man as I got involved with the ECTA after his death. He sounds like quite a guy.

Steve (Whitemonster) very deservedly was awarded the Lee Tindall Award as "Volunteer of the Year" and, while a lot of folks really come thru for us, Steve is certainly among the finest. Congrats to Steve - and to ALL the volunteers!

Anyhow, it was a wildly unexpected and I was actually, for once in my life, at a loss for words. Still not sure what I said as they insisted I say a few words and I hope I didn't embarrass myself or the family name!

Many folks gave me congratulations and let me say to all that I accept them humbly. The board decided I deserved it so I guess I did - but I can think of a lot of other folks who seem like they deserved it more.

                Congrats Dan!

Sorry I never made it to Maxton. I only know of it through association with this forum, and most of that association is from you. So in my myopic view, you certainly deserve it!
