  • How would YOU feel? (the one that got away)

So here's the story, sorry if its a little long:

a few years back, a great-uncle of mine (a bangshifty junk collector if there ever was one) takes me for a stroll during the family reunion.... to his barn. He pulls back a tarp...

and HOLY EFFIN' EFF, under the tarp was a 1944 Indian Scout. With about an inch of dust and grime.

Says he hurt his back climbing off it after a long ride back in ohhh... 1975. Hasn't ridden it since.

And then the poor ole guy passed away last summer...

RIP, Buzzy. You were one of a kind...

But the story doesn't end there...

So his widow, my Great-aunt, hasn't ventured out to the barn since....

And I've been having dreams/nightmares of going down there, offering her a fair price, and loading it up.

Found out last weekend that someone else did just THAT.

Apparently, with some ether, a new plug, and a few kicks, IT FIRED RIGHT UP.

    exactly.... HOLY EFFIN' EFF. :o :o :o

And the story goes that when it fired up, it was shooting acorns out the exhaust all over the place. NICE!

Part of me is pissed that I didn't get off my ass and get down there, part of me is pissed that I didn't have the money, part of me is pissed that I didn't offer to mow her lawn for a year for it, part of me is pissed that I didn't make time to do any of that (school, job, bills, excuses... yada, yada)...

But part of me is happy that it's no longer rotting in the barn, and it at least went to a good home, where somebody truly appreciates it.

    I know I do.

Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

you sound so grown up, conciliatory, at peace with oneself.... in short coughcoughcoughbullshitcoughcough... I really should get that cough looked at.

Trust me, in 25 years, the pain will be there as strong as it is today.

    Have a great weekend ;D

                lmao

I feel like I've missed out on a lot of great deals over the years. My main issue was that I was a kid with no money. Of course now I'm just a young adult with no money, lol.

Sure the bike would have been bitchin' but I think the family connection is pretty cool too. I think as Bangshifters we kick ourselves at least once a day for things like this... Craigslist doesn't help either. ;D

My story ought to help to ease your pain, I had a cool ole Grandpa that was a true "Gearhead" and he had even built his own flatbed truck with a dump for work around the Farm. Anyway he had a Blue Indian Motorcycle with a side car (probably a 40's) that he used to take me for rides in whenever we went to visit, to shorten up the story he became ill with Cancer but before he passed away he made it clear to my Dad's Birth Mother that I was to have the Motorcycle when I turned 16, I think I was around 10 at the time. To help you understand this a little bit better My Dad's birth Mother never liked my Mom or me because my Dad had married outside of the religion she believed in. Anyway shortly after Gramps passed away she sold the Motorcycle and so just to have something to remember him by I later "bought" his old wooden wheel bicycle and never went back, I still have the bike!

                          That hurts!

4 years later I bought a 70 mach1 for $2650 but it was only a 351c-4v car - I didn't even know the difference between all the Ford V8s at that point, I just knew it ran good..... what I didn't know what it had a quart or more of gear lube in the engine to hide the rod knock and most of the transmission synchro's were shot.
There's always something new to learn.

Tony, I think ms. Great-Aunt just prevented you from hurting your back.
Maybe you want to thank her for that...
