its prolly cause of the size of the file, pics hafta be less that 800x600 in size to upload from your puter

Which is a pretty low quality picture. You'll have to switch your camera to its lowest setting, BEFORE you take a picture you want to upload here. Any pictures you may already have you have to reduce somehow, haven't figured that one out yet.

I think I'll just stick to the old way, its simplier for me to link to photobucket than to downsize everything.

I set my Photobucket account back when I started it to upload everything at 800x600 (thanks Joe Grippo) and have just found an easy way to resize photos, do it on your Photobucket page under Edit, than do a right click and do a "save picture as" deal, which will put that imageback in you computer in the right size for uploading here with the new system. It helped alot setting up "My Garage" using pic's I already had on Photobucket of my car.

And Charles' advice to set your cameras for a size that isn't to big for upload in the future is the way to go.

Lots of different approaches. I'm not and never will be a photographer, so maybe I can learn a whole lot right here.

It's always been my (mis?)understanding that if you shoot a high-quality photo to start with, it downsizes without losing a lot of resolution, whereas if you use the low setting on the camera, it's not got as so many pixels to start with, and is therefore not as sharp?

I'd like to know for sure which way is right, because I sure don't know. Glad I'm not a real photographer, that's just too much stuff to know. But there's millions of us out here with point and shoot cameras and the same queston - high-res and then downsize it, or low-res and go with it?

I use photobucket also, but you can resize on your computer.Just click on your saved pic, then file, then open with and click on paint.
I'm self taught and it works for me.

Ahhh, make sense now. I'm having the same problem, failed to upload message. Now as soon as photobucket fixes their stuff so I can get to my photos I'll be in business.

Anyone can resize their photos, regardless of the setting on their camera. Almost any computer has the ability to do it. Check your computer for a photo program, and you can import your photos into it and then resize them. Or, to keep an original that is full res, you can import it into your photo program and then export it back out. When you export it you will be able to set a size and a name so that you can put them in a folder for posting on forums, etc.

Example: If I have a photo, titled Chad'56, I can import it into iPhoto(mac) and then export it. When I ask it to be exported it lets me save it in a different format if I would like, set the size, and rename it. I would rename it Chad'56Forum, and put it into a folder that is titled Forum Photos and then I'm good to go. Get it?

Chad, your reply was as clear as mud to me.I don't know anything about "import/export".In fact,I don't know much about computers
either.Am just self thought thru trial and error.Just know what works for me.I.E.,my avitar was a full screen pic, went into paint and
reduced it by 80% and posted it.BTW my camera is a cheapo 27 expo.bought at Wallgreens.

Just wondering, how do you browse photos from home computer on the forum treads, I must be missing something? I see the insert image icon but, I guess I don't know how to use it. Help?
