    Home improvement people: Paint sprayers

Been looking for a sprayer to spray trim in our house for the remodel. Of course I don't want to spend a ton of $$$ on a sprayer, but don't want a super cheapy though. Been looking at a Milwaukee M4910-20 because it will do both airless and HVLP. I have read mixed reviews on the Milwaukee, but suspect that it is the old 'pro-painter' vs. 'regular guy painter' stuff. Pros no likey, regular guys do. Kinda like Snap-On tools vs. Stanley tools or whatever. lol

    Anyone with experience using it?

    Other suggestions?

We have a painter doing the downstairs but he is retired and is slow as freakin' Christmas. I want to jump on the upstairs and hammer it all out quick so we can move on to other aspects of this house. This project is dragging on way too long.

Some things I rent, and this would be one of 'em. They really are inappropriate for auto paints and how often would you paint a house? Personally, I paint with a telephone now, but IF I were to spray one I'd head to the rental shop and rent a pro sprayer for a weekend.

      get a brush an go...
or rent a pro unit.. the home use sprayers suck..
they clog ,they spit at the boards if not COMPLETELY MIXED/THINNED.
      and are a royal p.i.t.a.
a few brushes some blue tape and a w end and you're done.

Dan, I thought about that, but this may take longer than a week. With that Milwaukee and the airless option, I can use it to paint the outside of the house and stuff, too when the time comes.

BTW, I *did* paint a truck with a Wagner once. Sealer, color, and clear. Actually turned out pretty nice.

I agree with Dan, unless you want to go into the painting business I'd just rent one.

Personally for my Painting business I have a couple of Wagner Professional sprayers(will support up to a .023 tip) they run on 110v, you just drop the pickup tube into the 5 gallon bucket of paint, prime it and start spraying.... I've had them for over 10 years now and they are still running strong!!!

My dad used to say painting a car with an airless sprayer would be the way to go.........

With the Wagner's that I have you don't have to thin the paint, hell I've sprayed that elastormeric roofing coating with them, you just have to take the screens out or they will clog........

A friend bought one from the sherwin williams store and loves it - I don't think it's a milwaukee or a wagner. I'm not a big fan of the wagner sprayers - but the wagner power roller will sure save you some time!

I'm a fan of a good brush and good paint for trim, but if it's a sprayer you want - I'd rent a good one before buying something that might turn into a PITA.

Check out a local sherwin williams store - the folks I've dealt with at the stores in Michigan, Ohio, and TN have been straight shooters that deal with pro's all day long and know what works and what doesn't in the real world, they may even rent spray equipment, not sure.
There's always something new to learn.

I'm not usually one to recommend the big business stores, but I totally agree with a big thumbs up for the Sherwin-Williams people. Our local store has done nothing but steer us in the right direction and usually for less money and a far superior product than I would have picked myself. They really did us right.

Last summer I needed to paint the entire house, and a barn, so I bought a used Graco Nova (the kind sold at Sherwin Williams stores) for $200 and spent another $75 "repacking" the pump, which was super easy to do.

I agree that it's a little overkill for a homeowner but the sprayer is 100% awesome to use. I have a Wagner HVLP and it's OK if you remember to take it all apart and keep it really clean. but nothing touches the Graco sprayer, they even carry the tips and accessories for it at the home improvement stores. You definitely want a piston pump, not a rotary IMO, if you go this same route.

IF IT WAS CHEAP TO ship I would send you mine I think its just as hard on them to sit not being used.

I have the longer tubes for the spayer so no ladder is needed, and it worked great just lower the suction into a 5 gallon bucket no need to thin anything. Its a some b*** to clean I got three lenghts of tube so you dont have to move it when spraying.

They are $1200 sprayers new, I got one from Home Depot that was reconditioned for $700 and the other I got brand new from a pawn shop for $600, but it didn't have the gun. I've had both for over 10 years now and I leave them sitting in painty water for weeks/months at a time and they always work when I need them. I don't know about their cheaper lines, but their professional line is no joke.

After seeing TC & DG post, I secretly hoped this would turn into a BRUSH VS. SPRAYER thread. lol

Maybe I can rig an MS to inject paint onto the trim and woodwork.....

our super awesome all knowing leadership decided that it was a brilliant idea to paint out hanger doors. Instead of doing the leg work to try to contract the job out they wanted us to paint it...with brushes and rollers. Morons.
Anyway, we took up a collection from the guys at work and with about 175 bucks in hand I went to Home depot and purchased this

We painted out aircraft hanger doors, corrugated steel 3 stories high and about 75 yards long. We have used this thing many times over for the stupid busy work projects that come up. It works great...it was easy to uses, clean and performed great.

                              Just my 2 cents...
