So the trap was set ... she had no clue what she was getting for Mom's day (she actually thought it was an I phone .... LOL).

The trip is set for June 10 thru 13, and after much discussion, all we want to do is relax on the beach, enjoy each other and maybe see some wild life (seals, etc). The Midway will be it for the sight seeing with plenty of beer, seafood and mexican cuisine (it's my favorite).

If any BS'ers (Gail and Loren) maybe want to meet for lunch/dinner one day, that may work depending on how momma feels about it, and I don't really want to take too much of the "us" time away from this vacation so .....

Would love to only if it fits with your sked, we are super busy right now moving Loren's shop and him working tons.
BTW! Way better than an I-phone! You are very romantic.

And a funny coincidence about the Bahia ....

The friend I'm in business with doing the remodels (we were also car partners) was born and raised in SD. He worked at the Bahia back in the 80's as a flooring specialist in the maintenance dept. for the hotel. He did all of the carpets in the Mercedes bar (if it is still called that) as well as all of the hardwoods throughout the hotel .... weird.

If you're looking for a great burger and cool atmosphere try Hodad's...just don't go right at lunch time as the lines are always long. They have two locations now - Ocean Beach and downtown on Broadway.

Highly reccomend L'auberge in Del Mar. Super relaxing, super close to the beach (private walkway) and in the middle of things right out of sight. Awesome restraunts with Hawaii like views from the lobby and patio. Good people watching too. A little pricey for a room (reasonable food prices), but they have deals on a regular basis. My Mom stayed there a few weeks ago and I am now #1 son.

We got back last night ... What a fun trip! The Bahia was great, for some reason (still unknown to me, something to due w/booking thru expedia I suspect) we got a free room upgrade to a suite w/a kitchenette and a view of the bay. A quick trip to Ralph's and we had food and beer in the room.

The weather wasn't the best, overcast every day w/ the "June gloom" and water temp was in the low 60's .... not much beach time for us!

The USS Midway was incredible! That thing is huge! A ton of history and stories sitting right there. They had quite the cast of former sailors that actually served on her throughout her decades of service, telling stories and giving tours.

Saturday night at Pacific Beach was cool, great atmosphere and the people watching should be an actual sport. Got to see a few F18's take off from the Naval Base.

Sunday we headed down to Imperial beach, the breeze off the water was too chilly to do much. We watched some little old Mexican ladies fishing for sardines. Found a place called Jersey Boys Deli that a great deal on mimosa's by the pitcher. Decided not to try TJ as they might not let me back in ..... LOL

Monday we did the zoo. It was the nicest day weather wise and would of been a great day for the beach but we had to get back home that afternoon. Got to see the pandas (this was priority for Michelle) and most of the other animals.

Old Town SD was our favorite ... lots of food (mexican, my favorite!), neat shops and friendly people.

I highly recommend a trip like this to everyone .... I still wouldn't want to live there (and I don't mean that in a negative way) but we'll be back again sometime in the future. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations and such!

I am so glad you guys had a good time! Sorry about the weather, I wouldn't want to live in SD either I am so NOT a city girl!...It is gloomy alot of the time at the coast and the water never gets warm enough really because it dumps down from Alaska...
