I'm still a little curious on how you run short of lift that close to the ground. Especially after burning off several k lbs of fuel.

Turk, have you ever looked at the XV-1 at the Ft?

holy balls of fire, Batman - The reports say that the Seals destroyed the broken chopper to keep from others copying its tech... The stuff on the outside of the wall wasn't accessible, but am I the only one who is impressed by the level of destruction they caused to the part of the inoperable chopper they had access to?

I"m pretty sure they used Airwolf. It must have been something they injested into the engine when they flew out of the top secret volcano.

it's fairly easy to run out of lift.... the Helicopter has to overcome the rate of descent plus it's weight....and you can bet your ass they had those things Pig Heavy with every piece of gear in the world... they re-fuel in flight.. ( that's why the Chinook was there... ( think Double headed crowd killer ))....

They said if the USA does something like that again without telling them they will retaliate. What are they going to do close all the 7-11's?????

                        Rumors and conjecture abound.

ya know.... If you were the moderate leaders of pockistan and you ended up stuck with this loony radical hiding in your back country and the US lookin' for him an all--- you might try to keep that loon confined, locked up and unable to effectively communicate with the outside world... offering him a nice place close to a mil. base may offer him the security he would need to accept the offer. but ya can't keep a famous loon like that caged up forever - he will eventually get out... and being 'the home team' you can't off him....he's the hometown pride guy... so to speak.

so ya turn him in to the US.

Mr conspiracy here thinks (uh-oh 2 cents comin') that there is NO WAY that special ops team missed destroying a valuable piece of hardware like that. From what I hear on the news, they were not being pressed real hard to get out quick.

Trojan horse, The US is using this oportunity to give away our stealth secrets? maybe give away a bunch of deceptive junk...The terrain around this area is mostly mountainous and I can't see where stealth would help tremendously...they are gonna be tree hugging as they fly in to and out of that site. And that is where radar blows... down in the ground clutter. so having a stealth chopper might not be as much help on this mission as it would trying to sneak into Baghdad. just sayin' but it would be a great oportunity to dress up a pig like she was a swimsuit model and throw her over the wall for the pockistanies to find. If you make the decoy a believable decoy, the oposition may spend considerable time walking blind alleys, trying to find secrets that aren't there...

yeah i know... everybody makes mistakes, even special ops....It just seems very...ummm.... - hollywood - i dunno...

edit - and i also think that the tail broke off because ( it ) landed on the wall....

the stealth stuff is for radar.. people still see it and feel the wind. what in hell would be so secretive.

I was just reading of a father of a 23 year old taken hostage two years ago , by pakistan/afghani taliban, begging for his sons release.. assuming he is still alive.

the death of osama has probably sealed his fate I could guess.

                          that brotherly stuff sticking together..
consequences for everything.Osama being an "everything" is .. not likely.

osama was a harmless aging crazy runt.. pakistan may have humored his existence for that reason.

Libya and its history with a gov't leader being bluntly hateful with threats...this seems more an osama label to be. this all coincides together somehow. Would love a real story.. other than what we get already.

The day after the attack on qaddafi and one of his sons dead, osamas is announced.

Some credibility to the hitting the wall theory.....I think 'late pitch application to check rate of descent' or, 'settling w/power'. Either way, the thermite could have blown the tail rotor and horizontal stabilizer that far......kinda reminded me of the botched 'Iraninan Hostage Debacle'.
Truth is, they need to use Army helicopter pilots for these missions. Best in the world.

It's my understanding that not only do those choppers have a reduced radar signature, but the multiple blades on the rotors make them much quieter.
