Yesterday's Good (Maybe) Idea

Now that the mezzanine is nearing completion I needed to get the Mustang under it. As he's currently not operable this meant some way to slide it into place. I don't have a set of car skates and besides I wanted to get him off his tires as he say waiting for me to get a round to-it. So I had jack stands and about a million 4 wheel dollies left from using them to move the structural steel for the mezz. So here's what I came up with:

And the car in it's new resting place. I think these pics may be in reverse order but I don't know why (they seem right on the edit page).

Anyhow, I found that the floor has to be perfectly clean and that the HF dollies do NOT have stout enough wheels even though I was WAY below their rated value. So I had a couple of small disasters but the concept is sound.

Cool Dan. I found the same thing about the HF dollies and the weight rating, ironically with a Fox Mustang too! The wheels tend to deform and become "flats" and take some serious convincing to get rolling. No chance of it getting out of control from overspeeding though.

if it was me , I'd put a metal plate under the stand. or you might find the car on it'd door handle one day

A friend of mine used those too, but just set the tires on the dollys.

You may not be able to tell from the pics but the wood under the jack stands is 5/4 (a full 1 inch) oak veneer plywood left over from another project. It's VERY stout so I'm not worried about it failing. I am a bit worried about those cheap HF casters, though! I may replace the dollies with the bigger HF ones the next time they're on sale - unless I find some better casters and/or dollies at a good price.

Absolutely. His name is 'Stanger. He's kind of like a boy in his late teens - ready to rock (if I got off my butt and worked on him - not much is needed).
