  • Flash back (1980)

Went digging through my old pics and found some stuff I didnt think I had. I spent all my high school money (3 years savings) on a new motor at DLI (1978) for my 69 Charger. Crashed my Charger in 1980, and then put the motor in a 69 1/2 Challenger R/T we had. Then after a loong story, the motor blew up. We scavanged a new short block and go fast parts for it (in the back of my friends 396 powered GMC truck) and got it back on the road that weekend. The DLI prepped block is/was buried at the end of 27th street in DelMar. Along with the GMC (with the dodge van seats that used to be in my 69 Charger) there are peeks of my buddy Andy's 67 Camaro (4spd w/396 power) and Steve's Ford truck with a Mopar 383 and push button trans. I sold the Challenger to pay for College debt (2600.00) ouch.

If I remeber right, the windage tray was friction welded to the oil pan from the end of the rod smacking it at high RPM. The Challenger went down the road for a while minus a piston or so...The heads were salvageable (DLI prepped stage V) Heres a pic of it after the motor swap I think...

Cool pics! I was 16 in 1980, and life was good. Imagine yanking your motor out there in front of your house today, the neighbors would have you arrested.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

Awesome! I wish anyone had thought to take pictures when I was young and dumb.

I Painted my Barracuda in my drivewaya couple of years ago after doing the metal work there as well. Nothing has changed but the location...(and my age) An EZ up doesnt make a great spray booth.

Awesome, EZ-up spray booth, lol. I used to do a lot of stuff in the parking lot of my Dad's apartment complex (he had all the tools!). The we were always on the look out for the apartment management in their golf cart. The maintence guys would give us the heads up on their location, LOL. If I lived on a level street more would happen out there I think. =)

Seems like almost all of the "Dan With Cars" pics are from when I was old and dumb.

Great pics - you looked a LOT like my friend Kirk - he's the son of my friend the horse trainer. I got him started on car painting about then and the student far exceeded the master.

                            Cool pix, thanks for sharing.

1980 was the year I was born. Bruab too, IIRC.

I cheated, the first picture was 1981, the second 1979 =P Another 1980 here.
