In the new issue out, most of which is about the Great Race, on page 60, in chonological order, they name the 10 Best Cars to run the 500

1911 Marmon Wasp (1st Winner)

1939-40 Boyle Special Maserati 8CTF (first Italian car to win)

1947-49 Blue Crown Specials (winner 3 years in a row)

1952-1954 Keck-Kurtis KK500A (bringing forth the "laydown engined roadster" era)

1957-1958 Belond Special (same car, two drivers, two wins, back to back)

1961 Cooper Climax (not the first rear engined car but, the one that is most significant)

1965 Lotus 38 (winner Jimmy Clark , also the first driver/car to set a 150mph average race speed)

1967 STP Paxton Turbine ( One of the biggest controversies in the race's history)

1971 McLaren M16 (Ushered in the era of closed nose wedge shape with radiators on the sides)

1980 Chaparral 2K (Winner Rutherford's yellow #4 was first to use full under-car ground-effects, and instantly became the standard in Indy Car Racing)
