  • The Way Things Used to Be

I know I'm a dinosaur peedubber relic. But there are certain things today that are not the same as they used to be.

Bugles. The snack food shaped like the snout of a ...well, not like a bugle or a trumpet? Triangular tubes. They were once so rich in butter and salt and what have ya, that was a delicious crunchy treat.

No more. They don't taste the same anymore. They're probably better for you now, but they don't taste worth crap. Not the same.

I could go on and on about the products that have been changed for "our benefit."

It depends on how long you've lived as to whether you know the difference or not. There are so many food products that have changed, but stayed on the market. Not the same as they used to be.

I'm sure you all can think of some right away.

The ORIGINAL Famous Amos cookies. Those little chunks of heaven. Then the bastard sold out, and now the cookies are like mini Chips-Ahoys.

That's what I mean. Like Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs. I lived on that stuff for decades.

But now it's yucky. Either they changed the recipe, or my taste buds are shot.

Somebody tell me...I think that may be my real question.

How about SHELL gasoline with platformate? Now it's nitrogen added. How do they put extra nitrogen in, what exactly does it do
to burn cleaner? There used to be a SHELL answer man but I guess he's gone.Requests to SHELL have gone unanswered.

This thread's going south, but what about Sunoco 260? I had to buy that, and add some Moroso octane booster to it to keep my hotrod VW Bug from spark knocking in hot weather.

But you can't eat that. And how old am I? Way old.

Campbells Soup has changed, and not for the better. Their Cream of Chicken used to be buttery smooth and rich. Not anymore - they supposedly made it healthier. Now I make my own soup in a Crockpot and it's tons better than Campbells ever hoped to be.

I'll bet the current version of Cream of Chicken would be a lot better with some chocolate syrup << Sorry, chocolate GRAVY, not syrup>> mixed in with it. Or grape Kool Aid with two cups of sugar, not one.
