My laptop is usually in the garage with me. Technical library, parts directory, music player, and usually an instant link to someone who can give me advice when I mess up. It is pretty beat up, but it still works OK.

My favorite is the camera in the phone, which after you take the picture, you can send with text, usually something like "look what broke this time!" or "WTF happened here?" or "how do remove that little circlip doodad?"

On the other hand we toured Turbonetics on the CC anti-tour the other day and a couple of the younger guys there showed me pictures of cool twin turbo BBC set up they saw out back, but warned me there we're other pictures of nekkid girls on the camera. The quote was "you don't have a pace maker do you, those girl's are hawt"

computers have come a long way for mango the gay disco dancer..enjoying the freedom of dumbass in the neon lights and purty colors...
some of us have to keep working them.



I can't wait until they solve this very very complex problem.

I am exactly in an opposite relam in all ways when it comes to computers. ALL ways. I even walked away a few years in disbelief it is this stupid after taking the pointy clicky happy away and getting to a command prompt.

Hell, Keith, when I was yer age..... (that was 10 years ago for those of you keeping score). Anyhow, I've been using computers on a regular basis since 1982 or so, but I'm just that, a USER. I don't want to know the structure of the software, etc., which is why I like my Mac. Don't hafta know nothin', just use it.

But ya, time sure does march on.

Yeah, it's forever been an idle thought of mine how cool it would be to take Ben Franklin for a ride in a car, any car, around town. And how terrified he would be when we got up to 45 mph.

Or to bring my dad back for a minute from 11 years ago and show him our house. But he wouldn't be nearly as impressed as Ben would be. Silicon technology aside, the whole world hasn't changed a lot over time. We don't have the George Jetson DDDDddddd flying rides like lots of folks thought we would in the 21st century. And we still have to pee and poop. Life goes on.

We just have to learn new hardware and software. Which is like walking for kids, but it's like oral surgery for us old farts.

I'm typing on a laptop type gig that is so far above head it defies discription. This while playing in my shop working on junk that normally requires points and a condenser.
It's amazing how much life has changed in just the last 10 years

late 90s was torture and teases.. win98 stuff.

I used to punch stuff in an old setup, dos looking screen for work. early 90s. I hated it. Idea is great..always will be.
I did get a trs80 from radio shack for 99 dollars, that was mid 80s. a tiny modem.

I still don't want it controlling fire and fuel. they can't even make a big enough switch..

realtime nature and consequences is the winner.

anyway, I agree.. two worlds colliding. I hope to keep a vow of no ECU cars for some time to come.

I love that contrast of time and history, like googling the spec's of the main bearings in a Model A 4 banger.

It's not true that all the old data and history has died with the generations that made it, it's all out in the web, ya just have to find it.

I never thought I'd have stuff in common with a guy from Norway but, Arild has taught us all that that turns out to be true.

I used to get this same feeling watching the space shuttle launches. It was only 108 years ago that the Wright brothers first took off in that rickety looking airplane of theirs. That first flight was about the length of a 707 and now look where we are when it comes to flight. Cars are much the same thing. I remember a quote one time that stated that going a mile a minute would crush a human being. I wonder what that person would be saying while sitting inside a Veyron at speed. Camille Jenatzy was the first to drive over 100 kph. I would love to be able to go back in time and talk to him about that experience then bring him forward for that Veryon ride and interview him again. I guess its the history teacher coming out. Now as far as computers -- I admit I am not smart enough to understand much about them thus nothing new surprises me.
