You guys ain't gonna believe this $h!t...I fixed it?

Not being overly optimistic about anything...ever...I suspect that I may have pin pointed my transmission problem.
Regular forum readers know that I have been having transmission issues with my DD Dodge Ram.
As state before the truck would not up shift, and at times would shift in and out of gear randomly. All symptoms and a code that I got once (only once) pointed to either internal transmission failure OR 2 solenoids in the valve body.

Well, not being one to take anything at face value, I started scouring the internet becoming quite ninja like with my google skills. I found a person who was having a similar issue to mine EXCEPT, when he hit the gas, instead of going into passing gear, the engine over revved and the truck went nowhere...Oddly I had experienced the same exact problem 2 days prior. I read the multitude of responses..most were stupid comments...but one made me think. The person that responded mentioned that the throttle positioning sensor along with the solenoids control the shift points in these trucks...GENIUS! It all suddenly made sense. I went to the TSB board for my ram and found the steps to check the TPS...I hit it with a meter and found the voltage out of limits....Replaced the TPS and *poof* problem gone.

So again, not being overly optimistic...when I replaced the tail shaft speed sensor it went away and then came back in a day...but I ran her out pretty hard for about 20 minutes and the trans is shifting like a dream...I may have it fixed.

I needed this break...I really did.

WTF! anyone else have any miracle, Hail Mary saves like this...

the net helps there no doubt.

I am on a carb engine setup..and still find weird things that have results for something else...
the heater resistor keeps ignition advance calm..heat on or off. I can understand a thermal fan switch with a low mde doing somthing like that at the radiator..you know static excuses. But the heater blower motor resistor?! that is crazy stuff.

the -12v monster is an amazing thing to conquer and diagnose... most look for live wires.

glad you got the electronic nightmare somewhat figured out.
the long term and -12v..real bitch sometimes.

Way to go! That's a big relief to find a problem that's been taking center stage and just plain pissing you off.

after 13 years and hundreds of repairs you tend to forget things but...somewhere in the recesses of my mind I seem to remember having this issue (or one like it) at about 49K miles....but I seem to remember getting a code for the TPS...this time I got no code that was of any real use. I am just glad I did not spend the 300+ for the pressure solenoids only to find they did not fix the issue....

The tranny in my 2000 silverado started slipping insecond and forth, babied it home from bowling green, changed the servo to a corvetter one, new filter or fluid. Been great ever since.

The Fury uses the steel rod...much easier.

I will get some miles on it today and see what happens ...hopefully this is it

I remember Having the SES light on for a month in the truck because the black wire shorted internally that goes to the MAF. Nelson Performance guessed it without seeing the truck, sure enough abouta foot back into the wire loom there it was.

Nice work Joe! It's victories like that which keep is in this game. Sure beats paying for a trans rebuild - or even both those solenoids!
