  • My neighbor just fired up his Top Fuel dragster !! ( 9:30 central on 6-18)

    Yes, I'm serious

He lives about 3/4 of a mile away from me

I heard some crazy noise and was like ... what the ?

Thought it was thunder ( we have some small storms working thru tonight)

Then I went outside , sure enough , he was warming it up

It is a low budget deal and he has made the field a couple times

Nitro is the ultamate solvant, it will dissolve marriages, relationships, bank accounts, and everything else it comes in contact with.
I remember telling my Mom when I was a kid I wanted to be a dragracer or a vetrainairian.....She should have told me to stay in school because I can't spell vetraianian...LOL.

We lit off the TAFC engine one night wrapping things up, it was all new otherwise we'dve niver done it. Anyway, we rolled it outside and lit if off and put a little heat in it and whacked it a couple times and rolled it back into the shop. About 20 minutes later the police showed up looking looking for a crashed airplane (we were in the flight path of dulles airport) and an explosion. There were fields all around us and a subdivision on the other side of them, the police were spotlighting the fields looking for wreckage so many people had called in a panic!

I love the smell of Nitro, it's funny at the track, they start a top fuel car up all the guys working on it are wearing gas masks, all the people watching start heading the other way, and I just stand there and watch...........

I guess thats fine if you're 20 feet away for a few minutes a year. I think the by product is call nitric acid, and it's nasty stuff.
I did the last man standing in BL's trailer where they take little briggs engine and run it on nitro and shut the doors. It got so bad inside there you couldn't see your hand threw the orange fog. I had the worst hang over the next day, it felt like I had a truck sitting on my chest....It actually took a few days before I felt normal again.

Worst I've ever experienced was standing next to Dave Hirata's A/Fuel car a few years ago. The whole pit area was a yellow haze, my lungs burned for 2 days. Nasty shit.

I've noticed where a quick wiff will get your heart pumping though, and I seem to remember reading something a long time ago about how there is a relationship with nitroglyceren, a pill they give people with heart issues. I wonder if it's true...
I know when I get home I have to wash my clothes right away, I don't notice it but my wife says she can smell it on my clothes. I tell her it has to be better than cheap perfume and cigerettes...
