We did ours a few years ago, cost a lot less than that. But it was a lot of work.

Being that many older homes in Cali got roofs made from untreated wood shingles that after decades in the sun they can go up in flames like an old dead christmas tree, I'd say it may be well worth the cost.

We do steel roofing up here, the snow slides off much easier so the house doesnt fall in. Cheap too.

10,000? I wish that's all mine would've cost me last year when softball size hail wiped it out. It was all of 14,000+. About 30% of the plywood had to be replaced and there was a shed involved, 23 squares on the house and 4 on the shed. I got lucky, insurance paid for 17,000. It paid for the new engine in the '55.

ive been all over the south and for some reason a majority of newer houses in Louisiana have steel roofs, I like the looks of it cause they're painted to match the trim on the house

We put the metal roofs on our garage (large two car really my shop), an older double wide I use for my office and also for an extra bedroom when we have that much company and a small storage building. Those did not come close to 10K. When the main house needs a rood we will go with matching metal on that too. One of the things that surprised me concerned the gutters. The rain comes off the metal roof so fast that we had to put up wide gutters to catch it. With the metal roofs even a heavy dew can partially fill our rain barrels. Unless you have three or more layers of shingles already on the roof, they don't take the shingles off. The metal is light weight enough that weight is not a problem. They put furring strips down and attach the metal to them. Goes down quick, looks good and last for a very long time.

Don't know how many squares it took but the t&g decking wasn't in the best shape(45+ yrs. old)so had osb laid down, and 3 new skylites. Now over $12K.Got 3 estimates all said that roofing materials have gone up in price in the last 19 months. My guess it's cuz of California regulations. Can't even buy decent carb. cleaner here anymore.
