that's what happens when a tiny sports car maker attempts to take over a much larger entity with virtually no sales..... I think everyone saw this coming a mile away, their only hope now is some chinese cash infusion...

When will they finally figure out that they never should have been making cars in the first place, and just quit?

it took all the independent that had a real car.
                the 900 non-transverse..
the volvo inline that could only fail when the cylinder walls gave way to something nuclear.

even my little subaru was "helped" by GM.

                it is a sick story.

The new car they have is actually kinda sharp. Its too bad they have all this trouble. Maybe GM will buy them back.

Was GM ever actually paid in the first place?

Vladimir Antonvo is a super wealthy Russian guy who has been trying to buy an interest in SAAB since GM was offloading it. GM wanted nothing to do with the guy as he may or may not be connected to organized crime in Russia. He's worth somewhere around half a billion bucks and wants to own 30% of SAAB. This may be a strange play to get him involved. If the Swedish government is forced between the spot of having to watch this company fold or let in Antonov and his money in, they may crack and allow the mystery man the slice of the pie he wants.

Interesting stuff. The blue collar guys were supposed to be paid today....the white collar guys on Monday.

Nope, that 's not true. As others have said Saab didn't begin to fail until GM took it over. They tried to make it into a competitor of BMW, but never put the resources into it to make that happen. If blame is to be put anywhere it should be put directly into the lap of GM. Beginning with the 92 in the early '50's up through the 900 Saabs were really good cars. Not particularly luxurious, but reliable cars that actually had quite a performance reputation on the professional rally circuit.

The $$'s GM lost on Saab is probably pocket change compared to what Ford lost on their "Premier auto group"
