  • Toy Question

What toys did all you gear heads play with as kids? For me, it was Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, GI Joe action figures, and Legos and Lincoln Logs when I was real little.

I was a kid in the 70s. One of my favorites was the Evil Knievel dragster. It had a teliscoping front end to allow adjustment of your wheely. It came with this pedistal that you put the car on and cranked a lever. When you hit a buttn, it would launch and take off across the room. Man. If I had one now, I would be having a blast. Hmmm. Maybe ebay???Johnny

Same as you minus the .I. Joe and replace with those tiny toy soldiers, and a lot of mud, ask mom about that.
My hot wheels collection is in the neighborhood of 3000

Hot Wheels, HW Dragstrip, on Saturday mornings I would run off all my cars (100+), normally the Jack Rabbit Special would win!! I still have the track and most of the cars.

All the above. Read a book about what some of my Hot Wheels are now getting. Never should've gave them away to my cousin.

I almost forgot some of my favorites. I had a train set and my absolute favorite was the slot car set. Mine was actually slotless with a "jam" car (the Tyco TCR set). We'd play with that thing for hours.

i built models & played with hotwheels.

the minibike was the best present i've ever gotten, and the go-kart was the best father/son project.

I remember that Tyco set. We had those monsterous 1/24 scale slot cars that ran on 12 volt power. Dad taught me how to put 6 volt motors in the cars to really make them fly. We also had Dads O scale Lionel set. I got it work again after decades in Granddad's attic. Parents sold it all in a garage sale when I was away at college.

                    Re: Toy Question

Well, when I was a kid, dirt had just been invented and we learned to mix it with water and play in the result, which we named "mud". Sometimes, we'd eat a bug or two just to see the reactions of the old folks - their names were Adam and Eve. Eve was nice enough, but ol' man Adam would make us sit around for hours while he talked about the good old days......

Lincoln logs, Lionel trains (my brother's, so he'd beat on my if he caught me messing with them), and erector sets - did that a LOT. I always wanted more erector set pieces. I was never able to build the stuff they showed on the tube that they came in, but I made lots of things that I was convinced were even better.

I still play with toys. But I am 19. But still, I like Elite Force and Ultimate soldier they are very detailed and awesome. I have 4 WWII planes that look really good. I like LEGOS, and Johnny Lightning cars. All cool stuff.

                        Oh yeah and water guns.

Plastic model cars and trucks, Hot Wheels/Matchbox......never had the H.O. setups(I was the oldest of 7), too expensive.

Still have a lot of the above, not to mention my 1/24 scale drag slot cars. Some friends of mine turned me onto that deal....haven't been in a while, may do that this weekend with the kids. Will need to do some maintenance work to it, plus a new set of slicks, as they're dry-rotted by now.

The first track was wild, full Tree and scale 1/4 mile track, electronic timing system. My setup was running mid-9's....not the fastest by far, but beats watching the snow fall.

Lexan bodies and 1/24 model bodies.....good fun!
