  • Cool resto of an ANCIENT engine

I like reading stuff over at SmokeStak.com because there's tons of weirdo builds and resto work being done on very early engines.

This thread shows a guy restoring a Detroit Engine Works 18hp 2-cylinder engine. This baby dates back to the early 1900s and it still runs. Pretty awesome, and he did some nice work bringing it back to original.

That which you manifest is before you.

A lot of that old stuff makes no power and is so crude you're amazed at the things they did with them. It's cool seeing what peopke do to get these old...or even newer engins to work...and probably better then they ever did

          that is pretty cool.

sounds like my sube the last time going down the highway.

I ponder what timers they take on ...starts around 20 years. they aren't what the factory built...never will be again.

unless a clean slate. melt it down like a volcano and start over.
I like the old original engines. they gain a life of their own.

Great post! That ancient technology fascinates me. One of the things that intrigues me is that at one time these old guys were "modern" - as we say nowadays, "state of the art". Think of how silly some of our tech will look in 50 or 100 years. Non-flat screen TVs are already on the scrap heap of history. I can hear my grandkids kids saying "Can you believe they they used to cut people open to do operations? Why didn't they just use.......?"

              History marches on.
