I used to work with a guy many years ago who hated to go to the grocery store. He would come to work mad, talking about it every time. Now, this guy would get worked up about anything anyhow, and it was really kind of funny to hears his rants, never mind his blood pressure was probably out of the roof because of it. And when you step back and think about it, he had a really good point, if you really are waiting for something to get mad about.
This was back in the days way before electronic transactions were prevalent. It was all either personal check or cash.
This guy would go critical mass when he waited in line behind 6 people and the person in front of him with a pile of stuff would wait to hear the total price before they ever even took the checkbook out of their purse or pocket. His veins stuck out because they couldn't just fill out most of the check (store, date, signature) and then just fill out the amount when it rang up. He'd get genuinely pissed off at people who did that, wasting other people's time due to their own poor time management.
For my own purposes, I've often wondered why there's not an "I'M Not Christmas Shopping" aisle at the big box stores during the season. I've got to have a special screwdriver or something, that's all, and am stuck behind a herd of people with carts overflowing. Ain't the holidays wonderful? But I don't get mad about it, that's just a fact.
Saw a thing on the web news today about a restaurant in Pittsburgh that banned all kids under 9 years old. They make too much noise, the parents get mad when the owner tells them to control the kids...kids banned from what should be a middle upscale bar-restaurant. About half of the seats are at the bar. They don't even have a menu for kids. I thought that was great. And perfectly legal.
And then there's the express lane. I got this photo from Lisa in WV today, it says it all. I mean, the express lane thing...is that a training issue or a behavioral issue? I think it's all behavioral but in an attempt to make it be a training issue, here's a sign:
