Made it 2 hours up the road yesterday and the car started acting like it was vapor locking. Seemed funny but it was hot as hell so I let it cool ten minutes and headed down the road again. An hour and forty minutes later same problem followed by opening hood vent and getting back on road (this is where I should have been smart enough to turn back). Back on the road this time for fourty minutes before stopping for lunch. Twelve minutes later another stop and sputter followed by AAA call, two hour tow truck wait, two hour diagnostic wait, fuel pump failing under load. Unable to get pump locally, tried to get u-haul truck and trailer, not available. Try to get rental car to get home and get a truck and trailer, none available in Normal, IL. Shop I was towed to let me borrow the courtesy shuttle to get home. Got here at 2 a.m. Leaving at 8:00 to take back courtesy shuttle and drag car home. Trip wrap-up tonight when I return.

that's not a large enough hole. the fuel lines and the pickup tube make it impossible to get the unit out a hole that small. Cut from where the level is, to the radiuses, to where the lower side of the hole is....
and call AAA, add longer-distance towing, then have it towed.... I love that about them... you can get better coverage when you need it.... I've actually chained that.... had a 400 mile tow, called AAA they towed 200 miles and dropped, called AAA they picked up with another tow truck and hauled it another 200 miles.... you can do that up to the 3 tows (600 miles)....Doing it all wrong since 1966
