  • New ride, but SHOULD be able to keep my BangShift stripes

    OK,

I got soft and bought a new Caddy today. It is a 6 speed manual, so I should be able to keep my BangShift stripes, right?

That would be a CTS V right?
Yeah I think you can have some more stripes !
Certainly can make them on pavement!

It was dark when I brought it home tonight, so no pictures. Hadn't even planned on buying it today. I wanted to order a 2012 so I could get the interior that I wanted, but the dealership without applying any pressure did have some quiet incentives to meet certain sales figures for the month. And when less than 1 in 10 buy a stick, they figured I was their best hope of moving the V with the stick. Kelly Blue Book says for this car, MSRP is only a bit more than $4000.00 above invoice. The car stickered $70,285.00 and they kept coming down in price to convince me not to order a 2012 but to take their stick home. When they returned with $65,300.00, they knew they got my attention, so they went one step further and offered 0.0% for 36 months, deal done. Since I had no intention on buying tonight, I didn't even have my checkbook, but they had no problem with me using my VISA for $18,000.00 down. I will return to the dealer tomorrow with a check because I hate to see a greedy bank pull 1.75% of that $18K, and the dealer is all for that.

Now on to the performance of a 556 hp Caddy, it has smooth power, but having to propel 4300 lbs, it isn't anywhere near as fast as my Track-T. But to its credit, corners very flat but doesn't have a harsh ride that one would expect in ANY car that corners that good. I crunched some numbers, and for the Caddy to have the same power to weight ratio as the T, it would require 1,075 hp.

How does that match up with my 527 RWHP ZO6 Vette?

It doesn't match up. You are 1,000 lbs lighter and about 45 hp more. A closer match would be my 4.2 lb per hp 1790 lb Track T. You would only need 800 hp at the crank in the 'Vette to match the T's power to weight ratio.

Is that where the guys are turning up the wick to 1,000+ hp? I have a car for that, the V stays stock.

It's the ones where they guy (Amir) is stripping out excess weight out of his Cadillac wagon. Clearly you don't have to go to his extreme's, but there could be a few spots of low hanging fruit to pull out of the car to lighten it up.

A red one with a stick. Hard to find. I'm surprised the dealer had trouble selling it.

Do I have to say have fun with it? Guess not.

People just don't drive sticks anymore, certinally not the yuppie types that buy this car and Bimmers. This dealer reported <10% sticks sold, and the sticks hang on the lot for the longest duration.

                            BTW,

I'm glad I have posted enough to get rid of the tag "drives an automatic" and now elevated to "tire chirper". It is only fitting, out of 6 cars in the stable, 3 are sticks.
