Leaving for the airport now, heading to Chicago for the week.

God bless those who gave all, watch over those who continue to serve.

I'll never forget that day. We live right across the river and a few miles north. We see the NYC sky line from our area. I was at work when my wife call to tell me a plane hit one of the trade towers. I was expecting a commuter plane as Newark airport is right across and there's a ton of air traffic on the Hudson. I went into the fitness center at work to watch the tvs. I could see the north tower burning. After watching for a few minutes, I saw the second plane hit. Right then and there I knew it was deliberate. It hit the area really hard as a lot of people who worked in the towers lived in this part of NJ.

The stench of the burning towers could be smelled and the crying heard from those who new ther loved ones weren't coming home ever again.

He's the picture I took that afternoon from the heights in Ridgewood NJ

I went to a car show on the 11th...and a soldier just walked up to me, shook my hand and said good morning. I was sorry to have been speechless, but it was touching! God bless all that serve us and keep us safe.

I'll never forget! I woke up that morning and turned on the TV as I usually do, and I saw what was going on and instantly thought it was some sort of a movie. I switched channels a few times, and after seeing the same thing over and over, and still being half asleep...I realized what I was watching was REAL! I was horrified. Those coward pieces of garbage...to pick on NON military targets....they should be cut up in little pieces and pissed on. To kill civilians..in the name of Allah..or whoever that piece of shit they pray to....they should all burn in Hell

I worked in large and conspicuous Federal Government facility and it was a scary day for us. To make matters worse, our next door neighbor was the Islamic Center (mosque). As time went on we found the Imam and the other Muslims at that Center to be fine folks who were as appalled and heartbroken (plenty of tears there, too) as we were. They had a horse in this race and they were scared to death that they would be judged by the action of these crazy people - and many did judge them that way. How would you like to be judged by the actions of Timothy McVey or the Rev. Jim Jones? And on 9-11-01 we didn't know who these neighbors were or what their intentions were.

Anyhow, our lives changed that day. Armed guards, 8 foot fences around the building, tank traps across the driveways, etc, etc. Our easy-going, environment-loving facility became a fortress as it remains today. After 31 1/2 years of service, I have to have an escort to enter or tour the building, like they don't know me there. I understand they had to take these steps but I don't like it. So to some extent the bastards won but in the bigger sense we're still doing OK as a nation, even though things are kind of tough right now. We are prevailing and will continue to prevail, which is what we do.

While I mourn all of the victims and especially the first responders who had to know that they likely were making a one-way trip up those stairs, the plane that went down in Shanksville strikes a particular spot in my heart. Just typical Americans doing what Americans do. "Not on my watch"! And they did it. Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham and the rest will live on as great American heros, as they should. BTW - I'll stay out of the realm of the political but I suggest you Google Mark Bingham. Might kick some old prejudices in the butt for you.
