  • Teens, WTF are they thinking?

We all went thru that period in our lives (or are going thru) where we do stipid $h!t. We all did it, be it drugs, drinking, drag racing on the streets or what ever...but man some of the crap these kids do today.

I am attending a funeral this afternoon for a child I did not know but my daughter was friends with. He accidentally killed himself earlier this week by playing the "pass out game" "the KNock out game" and so on. here is some info on this. Why such extreams? why not do some C02 whippets..same same and far less deadly. So I had to sit and have a discussion with my girl about this kind of stuff...My heart goes out to the family, to lose a child to something so silly...jsut sad

Here is some info on the game..

Who would have ever thought you need to talk to your kids about hanging themselves?

At the risk of sounding cruel, some more Darwinisn and thinning of the herd may not be a bad thing. Can you tell I'm not a parent, and never plan to be?

      Teens.......what are they thinking?

      Most times they don't.

I way too old to try and make sense of this shit.

It's a tragedy that they learned from their parents (talking in general, not specific) - there was a story not terribly long ago about a couple who were doing this, and one of them died. Heck, it's even at least one CSI episode. Kids are no more naive today as they were when I was a kid... just more news sources out there trying to profit from it than when I was a kid.

It's the reason I think kids have it tougher than we did. That girl who was interviewed, now will always be googleable as the girl that strangled herself hundreds of times - what are the odds she'll get a job, accepted to a decent college, or not be subject to ridicule for the rest of her life? At least when we were kids, we could move away from where we grew up and sort of start over... no such thing anymore.

The stupid don't survive long. I could see part of this being attributed to his friends doing it as well, but if his parents didn't instill enough common sense in him to stop and think, "hey, I shouldn't do this" then I see it as partially their fault.

            Are you sure about that?
I mean, after all these years we've been walking around on this planet, "they" seem to do survive pretty good.
I guess their succes is in the numbers... something about quantity and such. ;)

teens are the same as we where as teens,
nothings changed.. if we all look back, no one can say they are not surprised they made it past those years,
I feel for the parents, friends, and if the kid had brothers,sisters..
it's got nothing to do with "Darwinisn and thinning of the herd "
it's just a sad side effect of being a teen, and try'n crazy sh it..
we've all done it, in some way.. anyone that says otherwise, is either lie'n or stayed in their room and had no friends..

I remember people doing this same stupid crap when I was like 13 years old. I'm not the brightest bulb, but I didn't want the kid who ate his boogers next to me in school to cause me to black out.

Sad. It'll be compelling television for Dateline, 20/20, etc in the coming weeks.

Yeah, I climbed high-line power towers to the very top while drunk at the age of 16. It's a wonder any of us survived.

But I see a difference, and here I go on my old-fart rant. Or soapbox. The kids these days are so wired in, they have cell phones and computers and Ipods and what have ya, stuff we never dreamed of back in my day.

The collective "they" are so wired in and so connected, ...so what's next? There has to be a bigger thrill somewhere - like choking yourself.

I'm hearing more and more stories from folks at work about their own 16-year-old kids who are not interested in getting a driver's licence. How wrong is that? I mean, we're talking about a generation that is just so....well, fill in the blank. I sure can't. I don't at all think it's bad parenting, I think the newbs these days are so irresponsible and lazy that they...well, hush peewee. peewee doesn't have a dog in that hunt.

I don't think this generation is any more lazy than the last..
I think it has more to do with kids being able to (in case of a car) go online and see just how much that insurance for them to drive really is,
I know when I was 15 I didn't even put the insurance cost into my mind, untill the day to go get some and was like holy f#%k.. but by then had a car so.. today why do kids need a car.. they can see their friends right on their smart phones(skype) text them ,
where If we wanted to hang with our buddies you had to go out.. as the phone didn't work(mom or dad might hear what you're up to) and texting answers that problem....
today to get a drivers lic. states have made it a royal p.i.t.a. and none of it helps the kids be a better driver..
think about it. drivers ed. cost then the lic. then insurance.. most don't make enough even if they found a job..
I remember having a paper route and saving, mowing lawns, shovel'n snow.. all things of the past, kids today really don't have all that many ways to make some cash, untill they can legally work and then there are no jobs..
no wonder why they say f the car..
