Thanks for seeing that! I talked to Matt a while ago about syndicating that story over there. Cool to see that they stuck it up today.

I think we'll be doing more of that type stuff in the future.

Thanks! I try to be all-knowing. That site actually has a fair amount of neat stories every day.

I used to yell in the comment section back when it was young.
Somebody from one of those sites inspired my own write...never went anywhere.. alot of skills deserving, trying harder.

As stuff narrowed down on the web ..
the auto sites simply started acknowledging each other just for hanging on.

I like it alot...and never losing character of what keeps what.
          Not a surprise about jalopnik.

great story.. wonder how many tracks will be closed next year.. because of it..
economy sucks car count is down.. tracks are just try'n to get by. and say alive..
might be time for car clubs to volnteer their time, so that the tracks can put payroll to better use like EMT and fire..
instead of the starter and crew in the tower..
just say'n... and that be offering up a real idea. to help fix the issue . while still bringing the isue to light..

Here's an idea....don't frigging pretend to have a safety crew, ambulance, or fire truck when you don't have one.

The starter is the most important safety position at the drag strip. It would be an awesome idea to have some yahoo who wants to flip the switch stand there and send cars down the track clueless.

Bottom line is that it is the racer's responsibility to know what he or she is getting into when they strap into the car.

                        HA!

Tom Joslin, who is their weekend guy is a BS reader and often runs stuff over there that he found here (with a link back, so it is cool). Sam Smith who used to be there was a reader of ours and we were working on some stuff before he left. Matt, who is now in Sam's role reads the blog and we have been talking about doing more of the syndication stuff.

Love 'em or hate 'em they are the biggest kid on the car blog block!

your into retro drags.. the ole, good ole days.. it was some yahoo with a flag..
                          and as far as
pretending to have.. I'll guess that the track with the fire truck, owns it.. they didn't just rent a prop.. cause that would be pretending..
again.. times are tight.. car clubs can do the other gigs.. you don't need a pro starter.. or a pro in the tower.. for local drags..
national show. ya you do.. but thats not the type of show/drag you're store was about..
guess it be better if they closed up instead of finding ways to afford the safty crew needed..
good thing you where not a drag guy in the 50/60/70's... you'd be apauled

Did you even read the story?

I clearly state in there that if you want to race your car at a track with no safety stuff have at it. In fact I FREAKING PRAISED LAKELAND DRAGWAY FOR ANNOUNCING TO THE WORLD THAT THEY HAVE NO INSURANCE. Seriously, what are you missing here?

The point of the piece was for tracks leading racers on that they were equipped to help people, when they are not.

Oh, and FYI more people die at "local drags" than they do at national events every year.

yes I read it. and yes I can beleave more die at local events, but at the same time there is what 100 times more local events to national, so the numbers might not be all that different..
my post was to your, you need a pro starter.. like it's a got to have personel.. it's not..
if you as a track manager had to pick safety or starter.. and one had to go because of payroll cost..
same with the gate workers,, my post was an easy way to get tracks to spend were the money do the most good..
easy, and a viable way to serve the racer better, untill the economy and car count go up..
it clearly has merit.. and car clubs would more than likely be more than glad to help.. and trade a days use of the land for a show or a test and tune day..
I got a good idea of what will happen if a media outlet reads the story and desides to run with it.. and more than just car people are reading it..
