.....the function of a jury is to combat the tyranny of the majority. A jury may properly ignore a judge's instructions and find a judgment against settled law. Such a result may only be overturned on appeal when the results in a manifest injustice.

A manifest injustice is an impossibly high standard.

It's almost like you're confusing morality with justice. Justice never pretends to be moral, it's simply a tool to reduce the number of people who want revolution to a more manageable number. Those are much like welfare, public high schools, and public highways. (I sound pretty liberal, don't I Nik?)
