Great project and you are creating memories that will last a lifetime. When my daughter turned 16, got her a Passat. It was a beauty, but had a massive wire fire and whole harness had to be replaced plus some misc.
I bought it from a dealer for $500 and thought it would be an easy fix. Wrong! It was so frustrating for her, she had a license, but no car. She got creative and found a boyfried who was a VW tuner. The kid was a genuis and got it right the first time, and tweeked out over a small period of time. Kudo's to them. I gave up.
