throttle linkage?
the hint tells me it is not an extended distributor, so you don't have to lean under the hood to advance timing.

Boxer is right. It is a condition/throttle controll transfer system. It transfers throttle position to the engine and controlls the prop too.
you can see the assembly installed in the engine here.
the one I posted before was torn down because some nit wit rebuilt it and put the cables back in the wrong position so the throttle and prop rigging was all out of whack...not something a pilot wants...it's a bad thing lol.If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

Of course it's a throttle rig. The obvious evidence is the color of the floor tlle and the positioning of the ty-wraps around it.
