As far as places to "do" it....one of the standing OSHA regulations came from that. Don't leave the key in a powered industrial moving piece of equipment when you're through with it.

Dad had a big construction site, and Son took his girlfriend on her last ride. It was a scissor lift, a big one, 50 feet. Son wanted to impress Girl with his equipment prowess. All the way up, they undressed and started banging at it enjoying the view and shook the scissor lift too much sideways (Those things are drastically unstable sideways.)

It turned over, killed the girl and injured the guy. New law. Don't leave the keys in it.
