  • RIP Smokin' Joe

Hard-hitting boxing heavyweight Joe Frazier died Monday, a month after being diagnosed with liver cancer, his family said.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier died Monday, after he was diagnosed with liver cancer, his family said in a statement.

    Frazier was 67.

"We The Family of ... Smokin' Joe Frazier, regret to inform you of his passing," the statement said. "He transitioned from this life as 'One of God's Men,' on the eve of November 7, 2011 at his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."

He fought fellow boxing legend Muhammad Ali three times, including the famous "Thrilla in Manila" fight in 1975

Ali claims that the beating he took in the first bout with Frasier was the worst one he ever endured.

The guy wrecked people with that left hook.

I saw him a few times when I lived not far from him in the Chestnut Hill nieghborhood of Philadelphia, he was very approachable and a very funny guy. Huge hands!

At the beginning of the 15th rd in the 3rd Ali fight , Fraisers trainer Eddie Futch wouldnt let him continue since Joe was unable to see. Joe actually had to be restrained , while in Ali's corner he was thinking about quitting himself. "Closest thing to dying that I know of," Ali said afterward.

These men were true warriors, Damn I miss real boxing. not the lean on each other, hugging style heavy weights of today. ( Joe was only 205 lbs )

                  RIP

some called him small..never understood that.

the left hook stems from an accident he had on his left arm..must have petrified something beyond the norm.

I am not much into boxing..just boxer engines.

I remember the Thrilla in Manila back in '71.

I think the bout took place early in the morning....or was shown early
                        in the morning over here.

Joe was tougher than a pine knot.

                        RIP
