    Car dealers VS car guys.

In the market to buy a new car.2nd one in my 51 years of existence. Do my research and decide what I want and search the net for 3 months with no luck so its time to order. No big deal.I send a blanket e-mail to 11 dealers within 350 miles.3 reply with an out the door price. No question as to trade ins etc.One dealer did a search for what I wanted within a 1,000 mile radius with no luck.(Could have told them that). The other 8 tried to sell me something I dont want. What happened to the day of telling a dealer this is what I want, what can you do?If I wanted the better stereo I would have put that in my request, same as the Navigation system etc.Seems simple to me. Anyone else ran into this?

I always want to wear a t-shirt that says "Yes, I am a car guy. Try not to make yourself look stupid" when car shopping.

dealers want to empty out there lot so they try to go with a car close to what the buyer wants. problem is most dealers order fully loaded cars and i guess sucker people into them.

maybe just order it directly from the manufacturer and have it delivered?

The fact is you wont want to pay to have it done, the radio will sell over the counter for about 800.00 plus++ and its mutiplexed in different wire harnesses they would tear up a whole car just to do it. The labor to do it would be crazy too. You can special order it and wait or have it located and fly in and drive it away or shipped.

As I've said before, good dealers are hard to come by. Most want to deplete their stock as that's how the game is played these days - order up a bunch with as high a mark-up as the traffic will bear and unload that batch. Repeat.

You MIGHT have better luck with a small town dealer. Sometimes they aren't so loaded up and are willing - even eager - to order what you want. But you can expect to wait.

BBM - I'll place an order for one of those shirts. Can you post an order form?

                Dan

I just want it optioned my way.Something so simple has become so difficult.SGM I found one in Atlanta but missed it by a day. Thanks Jeff,it looks like Im going to have to order which I expected. Now to find one that will do it a fair price. The automakers wonder why they have a problem selling cars. How about listening to the customer.

Car Dealers! BLEAHH! Non car guy I work with comes from a non car guy family. He is looking at used cars and finds a Toyota.Had is 2 weeks and it was junk.So he went back and got this thing(see pix). First thing I notice is paint work on the pass side quarter. I see bondo work too. Opening the trunk I immediately notice how the plastic inner panels are all wrinkled and don't fit for shit. I pull the passenger side back and find a big hole in the inner structure! (see pic) Right above the muffler which will be great for sucking exhaust fumes into the car thru the trunk! I told him to take this POS back and he did. They had his money so he kept trying different "pre owned" choices till he found a decent F150 fresh from the vehicle auction in Illinois. The used car dealer fixed everything wrong I found with it after he made a list and took it back. The shit dealers new or used try to pull is amazing.

Rule #1 for any salesman, car to house to TV, to anything else; up sell the customer. Say your piece, make your point; then do a deal, or don't.

heres the thing.. dealers order what 95% of the people want, stocking junk for us the car guy is a no win.. they end up with to many left overs, they(the dealers) have to pay the loan on the carss, every month the car sits eats into the profit and the dealer just gives it to the loan bank.. unless they are boch dealers that buy with cash.
the problem with orders is they know, you want it ,because you're bull that they tried to get you into one they had or was aval. at a local dealer that is "close" to what you want.. so you've played your hand, you've told the dealer, I want it this way and only this way, so that ordered car is gonna cost ya.. no dickering, sticker sale.. cause what ya gonna do. no one has another..
they are there to make money and the buyer wants it.. so. either pay or get something close.. or get tight with an ordering manager that can sneak an order in and call ya when it's being unloaded so you are there to buy it from stock..
it be nice if the ordered car could get the same deals as one in stock. but why should they.. they got an eager paying buyer sitting in the showroom..
