There are still some hot imports around here, but the fart can pink primered civic with green skateboard wheels has gone largely the way of the van. I think some of the guys found women with some minute degree of taste who told them "Look, I'm not going to be seen in that" and decided the women were right. They're driving Acuras now.

Either that, which I prefer to believe, or the cops profiled them out of existence. The latter is probably more accurate.

The 300c with 500 pounds of subwoofer and amplifier seems to be the go to replacement.

I think they are still around. The people that were the fart pipe crowd have matured, but still "building" them. A few months ago, a kid that works at the pub I'm a regular at bought a newer Saturn Ion. I've been helping him with suspension upgrades, exhaust, and he is wanting to add a turbo .... heck, even he can't stand the fart pipe cars!

Many of those dudes who had modified imports a few yers ago around here are moving into 5-15 year old BMW's, newer VW's, Subaru's and such. Just last week I was over at K&G Speed (my local speed shop) and he was telling me about how he is trying to learn about all this stuff to support this next wave. He moved a ton of import stuff at the hieght of that scene.

Your right on that Joe. There are tons of lowered v-dubs running around. I think some also moved onto the traditional/rat rod end which is cool too.

There are a ton of fast imports where I live - and it's the middle of the country!!

TC, I tuned a 3rd generation Toyota Supra last week with the earlier "1JZ" and a 76mm PRecision turbo, bigger intercooler, etc. It makes over 600 to the wheel and is quicker than any car you'll ever own. Total sleeper too! (the older square Celica/Supra).

Also have done three turbo rotaries in the past 2 months, feel free to raise your hand if your car has put down over 500whp on a mustang (real) dyno.

Just looking at requests to tune various cars, the turbo imports are right at 50% of the requests I get. Frankly, most of those guys will embarrass 99% of the car owners on ths forum.

I anxiously await TC's next claim, I'm sure it'l be something like how he's gonna build a turbo carbureted inport that'll kick everyone's ass. Just you wait and see! LMAO I'm no sure where all the import hate comes from, but I can't find a domestic street car event comparable as the Texas meet they have every year...

This is exactly what my friend Jimmy was complaining about with his Honda, the car makes 700hp and the best he can get out of it is a low 11..........And this is a guy that has an 8 second Mustang and a 10 second Cobra Mustang as a daily driver........His advice to a kid at one of my parties, was don't waste your money on an import, you'd be better off with a Fox body Mustang..........

The fast ones around here have been few and far between. Typical owners are high school kids with shallow pockets and limited experience so they jump into a project, be it body mods or engine mods, and then never finish it. You see those all the time.

Around here the Import thing has pretty much gone away, but I do see a lot of RatRods......In fact drove by a car show full of them a couple of weeks ago........

Having a fast import is like coming out of the closet. At first everyone is surprised but in the end you're still gay.

When the first Fast & Furious movie came out, my hometown was full of Civics and Neons with bookshelf wings, fart pipes, underbody neons, etc. Then it spread to stuff like four door Grand Ams. For probably five or six years, that crap was everywhere. Lately it's died off. So glad it was a fad.

Truth be told, there are some fast imports out there, but they were lost in the fold of morons. Probably 98% of the import owners out there drove stupid little four door Accords that they lowered by chopping coils, slapped a fart can on and shoved a big stereo in the truck. I feel pretty bad for the few guys out there that built their cars right and built fast cars because they'll never really get much respect in the car world as a result of the kids in over-size saggy pants and crooked baseball caps.
