    Buying a new house.....

Moving is such a pain in the ass..... I like the concept, but god is it taking forever to pack up the garage & storage areas at my existing place (thankfully my wife packed up most of the stuff in the house - that seems to be the easy part this time)

Oh well, new house tomorrow.... bigger and better, and hey, this one is only 45 years old..... (but does have a bigger garage with a drive through bay & LOTS of room for a shop out back when I get the time to build one)

When moving short distances (like 45 minutes or so), anyone here bother to hire movers or just use sucker freinds like I'm planning?

We moved about 75 yards one time, across and down the street. There's nothing easier about it. Still moving everything we owned.

And yes, for that one, we used (well, paid) some suckers with a pickup and a flat trailer. No easier.

I don't think there's anything easy about it at all. Once in my life we used movers to come here to TN because the company paid their fee. Still, ...well, they carried and set all the furniture in place, but now there's a thousand dollars' worth of giant boxes full of just stuff. Never seen so much cardboard in my life. How did we ever GET so much STUFF?

Moving's not easy. Good luck on the new abode! Send photos!

My middle bro was a furniture mover (United Van Lines) for about 20 years. His goal was to make it as invisible as possible for those being moved - but ultimately it's disruptive as anything can be. He used to move us on our SE Michigan short moves and he made it as easy as possible but it was still tough.

Best of luck and hope it proves to be worth it.

haha.... just looked at my bank account -$292,000 .... ouch..... oh well, it's only money right? Good thing the wife & kids dont need a big brand new house, I'd be depressed to look at a number much worse than that....

Good thing my movers are cheap, beer and pizza FTW

My daddy moved us into a new-built house in 1965. All of his coworkers unanimously said he'd go broke making the payments. No way, Doomsday, bad decision.

Real estate is different now, but my parents' house on the outskirts of town turned into being downtown. Big bucks later on. Location, location, location.

Having kids always comes in handy when moving.........in the '90's we built 3 homes
                in 7 years.
Yep .......moved a lot but that's how we got our's paid for.

                Envy your garage situation.

Oh......speaking of real estate values.........I've got just about as much in
the W motor as we spent on our first home in 1971.

Yup, pricing is stupid for homes, seems especially bad out this way (BC Canada). We really didn't have any drop in home values over the last few years (it went down maybe 10%, but is now higher than it was pre-2008). I'm glad I bought our current house when I did about 7 1/2 years ago before pricing went really crazy, we renovated the entire place & managed to make some pretty good $$$ on it.
At least now that I have a bigger garage I can bring our other car home and not have it in storage....

Thanks, shutting down this computer and packing it up in a couple minutes, then getting ready to load a U-Haul first thing in the morning....
