It takes stones to give stuff like this a try, and when it works it’s an amazing feeling and one heck of an interesting read.

I just get hives when I see/read about anyone doing a last minute thrash; I’ve seen it go bad sooo many times in real life. Personally I try very, very hard to avoid any last minute thrash, and it’s done me well.

The Mopar to Vegas was a win and this was not, realistically this is just how it goes. It would be like reading fiction if it always worked out.

          Booted Stich?
I need to work less and read more forums evidently...
No way I'd drive to Alaska anytime after August in a 2 wd vehicle but I admire anyone that makes the attempt.
The last car I flat towed took out a bus stop (at 2:00am, no people around), but I tried...
          Its all too real...

You get a thick skin when you're in a public position. But this board surprises me. Among those bashing on me are guys who have asked me for parts, asked for my business, taken my money, begged to be in the magazine, hung out relentlessly, taken my beer, claimed to know me when they've barely met me, and failed on promises to me. I think Scott Clark would be the only one to have the stones to say any of this stuff in person. And, Scott, don't you have better things to do?

I hold none of it against you. Carry on.
Let's see, I've never asked for anything from you, I've never met you, I don't drink alcohol so I've certainly never had your beer, I've never claimed to know you, and I've certainly never promised anything to you. I am, however, a real subscriber who is exceedingly disappointed in yet another failure which was foreseeable.

I am glad to hear that you have thick skin, would have kept you alive maybe another 30 minutes if you'd broke in the Great White North.

He should try ice racing out here... Id like to see DF pull some rust repair!

They tried. When it started down the drain they made a wise choice.
The complainers should get off their butts and start a road trip.
I competed in regional Pro Rallies in the 1990s' Most days before a 1000 mile trip were a thrash to get going.
We drove a Pro Rally car to Prescott AZ(no trailer or tow bar) and had the dizzy go bad with no replacement. We limpped home. We started for the opposite end of OK an hour after the blizzard went thru and drove back after being awake for 20 hours of competition. We tried. again get off your butts.

The best people you will ever meet will never fill you up with BS just to say they are friends.

Personally, I double-dog dare you Dave, to drive that Ranchero FE'd to Ohio, crash on my couch until my wife gets on my case, drink my beer, raid my fridge, teach my kids dirty jokes, and cause general mayhem with the locals. Won't even have to be in winter, although that would get bonus points.

Double bonus points if you keep the flip-flops as winter footwear. Just cause I'm sick like that.

Dave, we love you . The wife and I still have your signature on our 2005 Power Tour signs . Been reading your stuff since your old Ramcharger was on the cover of 4 wheel & off road . You can tell a story like none other. When you tell the story in HRM it will probably still be entertaining. I think what most of us are trying to say is we don"t care for a mad thrash to put something together to take on a epic trip. I love trips . For me in this case, was the buying of a car that was too big to be pulled with the Ranchero.(which is probably why you didn't rent a tow dolly to get it home) I you had gone with plan C as plan B it wouldn't have been so bad . Now really though I want another story like "the bad seed" that Steve M. did. Also, wasn't we going to get something else on the hacked up vette. I'm wanting to see what was done with the front and rear suspensions and the drivetrain. I thought they were going into something. Back to the Ranchero, just actually race it in Baja like the originial story.
