The truly ironic thing about this storm is that my friend from Michigan who's always wanted to go to the desert southwest to buy a car and drive it home - is doing that right now! He and his brother flew out last night.
He called me this morning and wanted me to google a tire store near Edgemont NM, I found him a walmart with a tire center and an autozone within a mile or two of eachother.
He opted for the Douglas 215/70-14 and put the best used tire on the full size spare in the trunk.
He had done a parking lot alignment to correct the way out of whack toe on the right side - and he was happy to report he'd gotten lucky since the thing went down the road very straight after this crude adjustment.
The car He picked up is a 67 falcon 200 -i6 / C4 off ebay for just over 2 grand - absolutely no rust and straight body in running driving condition.
The seller put a heater core in it for him for $125 but - he still wasn't getting much heat / defrost.
He suspects there's no thermostat in it - I'm not sure if he remedied that situation at the autozone or not.
I'm not sure how far he plans to go today -he's making the trip with his brother - hopefully they make it at least to Amarillo - if they get into trouble - I may call you BBR!
yea - he was putting tires on thinking he was going to do his best to high tale it out of there before the worst of it hit - he and his brother are pretty hard core - they'll drive all night if they have to (if they can) to get out / stay out in front of it.
so much for his fun adventure getting home from the "desert southwest".
haha, fun. Clear skies here! Funny enough, I just bought a thermostat today for the T-bird because the coolant temp wasn't going over 145*F. That's around town and highway driving.
I was planning to leave here at 5:00 am tomorrow and blast up I-35 to 135 to 81 north but, looks like I'll have to stay put till Weds for sure now , maybe even Thursday ?
