  • A New Term to Me

Got the TV on ESPN, a college football bowl game. Halftime. The fancy guys talking at the desk, filling 15 minutes somehow.

So, I wasn't even really listening, but blah blah blah game....team , coach...situation, whatever..."Has turned into a dumpster fire."

I like that. For all the talking, sometimes between all the blather there's a gem.

Dumpster fire. (Whatever) has turned turned into a dumpster fire.

I like that, but somebody help me with what that might mean. I'd like to use that term, but right now I'm not sure when to.

      Dumpster Fire1. A complete disaster.
      2. Something very difficult that nobody wants to deal with.

This project is a complete dumpster fire.

file it with "Jump the shark" , see Fonzie.. and compare the Shark Jump episode to Jaws IV.

I set a dumpster on fire accidentally and damn near got fired for it. Bloody mess it was, and that would have been a "dumpster fire" ?

At our age, Unit and I spend a whole lot of of our brain energy asking, "What does that mean?" because we don't know. We really don't. So far "behind."

I thought for a while and imagined that a dumpster fire (physically, in reality) would be an awful mess right there where it was, but not likely to spread all over town, due to the contained nature of it. And how in the hell does a dumpster fire start to begin with, unless somebody throws some fire in there?

I still don't know when or how to use the term.
