There was some sort of a lid or grate on that hole, and it looked like it was on the leading edge of his hood or bumper. I don't think he was going anywhere.

I also saw that the water went back down the hole very quickly--like, quick enough to sweep you off your feet and go for a ride down the hole. Lucky the guy didn't get killed--by the water, or by other traffic.
