The timing chain thing wouldn't be so bad if you could leave it in the car. The cam gears fail all the time and it doesn't pay well.

can't see working at toyota being very good now that they switched to timing chains
was going downhill , when I left in 2001

Yeah, there is a significant percent of people not spending on maintenance. It's all quick lube nowadays, people aren't even interested in full services. Traffic has been getting thin since the pedal recalls, which is crazy. Not only was there nothing wrong with the cars, but people put that 6 sets of floor mats right back on the floor! Anyway, people seem to be tightening their belts, buying the cheapest tires they can find, going wherever the $19 oil change is, etc.

Cant make money in a toyota shop? The Toy techs do well over 3 times the gravy maintenance work than we do in a Ford dealership.
I can't comment on the Kia deal, never delt with the newer stuff , wasnt really found of the Mazda based stuff. Of course , I hate the Ford /mazda based junk, and Im not even gonna mention the nissan /ford nightmares.

I could go on about the latest campaign being only number 93, for all KIA models since import started in 1994. I just think it's unfair to bash them based on assumptions. I worked on them, I own one, I know better. I did call you out, because you haven't backed up a thing you said. Sorry you're the one who did that, we knew someone was going to. Most of KIA's bad rep is due to people who just don't know any better. Just wanted to prove it when I saw the opportunity, nothing personal.
They aren't so bad, but Gary's comercials sure aren't helping.

GM doesn't sell the stripped down korea boxes that trade deficit fueled kia ships to the USA ..if you want to pee yourself over how great the recall laden kiayundai is ..knock yourself out ...I am the first one to mouth off about GM antics and unfair compensation , as well as scamming the customer , so much so I have left the trade , but to waste bandwidth on a notable shitbox like kia ...I don't know

I was averaging 60 hrs a week working on them. Those were the good days. Now I work on Toyotas and I swear it's harder to make a paycheck. By 'better engineered' do you mean over-engineered? I haven't been impressed with any of Chevys' offerings in the sub-40K range.

Were you scared? They aren't that bad, after I worked for our KIA store a couple years I bought one. The older, Mazda-based platforms were the bad examples. Since the were bought by Hyundai, they are a completely different product. Parts even interchange cross-platform, if you know where to look. Some of them, like mine, are unbelievably easy to work on.Last edited by smiti99; January 11, 2012, 08:27 AM.
